Hey Gern,

I came across this a couple of days ago.  While it's not exactly what you had asked for, it should do the job nicely.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60034295
http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/19740_PE083929_S4.jpg (glass variation)

I think that it's actually a nicer solution than an old card catalog because this is much shallower, and can just be mounted to the wall.  You can also expand this as necessary as long as the wall space is available (stacked sideways and vertically).  The glass variation (they're shaped like pentagonal glass scoops with handles) might be nice if there was some way of securing them (might not be a problem, just depends on how much you trust people with greasy hands holding glass drawers).

Either way, thought I'd pass this along.

oo! I bike the glass drawer option for visibility, but it would probably be wise to use (i hesitate to say) plastic for drawers rather than glass.

i've been trying to keep a lookout for something like this on freecycle.com and craigslist. bicycle kitchen uses pretty traditional hardware drawers which are made of metal (easy to clean, pretty unbreakable). to make it easy to figure out what's inside, they affix a sample to the front of the drawer. voila!

i would love to start organizing items like this...

uhhh... well - it certainly provides a crapload of storage space.
we could use it for the spokes and give each spoke length it's own special locker.

really though... card catalog, parts drawers, jewelry drawers (i've seen bead stores make good use of those)...
even jars would work for certain kinds of parts now that we have that terrific shelf running along the back wall.

(thanks, beautification committee!)

At the last meeting on sunday someone suggested screwing jar lids under shelves to hold jars of parts.

What'd ya mean "no David".

I think the jars lids screwed under a shelf is deliciously retro.  I even have some jars.   Wink

I really don't think it (jars) will work well but it's a fun idea.

Oh, and I don't think the locker's size, shape, scale and color will not work for us.  Sad

I think the items should be in compartment crates, such as the ones on the DONATION SHELF.
