Does anyone want to lay claim to some suzue hubs laced to some black rims?

There is a red tag on them with no name.  I know of a non biker who would start riding if sold a set.

I'll Look into them Roll Eyes

They sound like some that belong to The Sir Paul (aka T.S.P.)

These Wheels
Sung to the tune These Boots Were Made For Walking
by Nancy Sinatra

Slaughtered by Gern Blanston

You keep saying you'll build me up & ride me
something you call love, but confess.
You've left me hangin' when you should've have been a finishin'
and now it's me, someone wants a gettin'
do you think it's best?

These wheels were made for Rollin'
and that's just what they'll do
these wheels were made for Rollin'
some day they'll Roll all over you

These wheels were made for Rollin'
they just want to see the view
These wheels were made for Rollin'
Whose their owner, Oh is it you?

You keep ridin', when you oughta be truein'
and you keep sitn' when you oughta not sit.
You keep a patchin' when you oughta be changin'.
Now what's riden' is right, but you ain't riden' right yet.

These wheels were made for Rollin'
and that's just what they'll do
these wheels were made for Rollin'
some day they'll Roll all over you

These wheels were made for Rollin'
they just want to see the view
These wheels were made for Rollin'
Whose their owner, Oh is it you?

You keep wrenchin' where you shouldn't be wrenchin'
and you keep thinkin' that youŽll never get burnt.
If the wrench you're usein' slips off the bolt
you'll say your sorry 'bout what you burnt

Ha! I just found me a brand new box of patches
yeah, and a tube of green slime from Gern
Stoppin' the poppin' from those little pricks
Oh, there's so much more to learn

These Wheels are made for Rolling, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these Wheels are gonna roll all over you.

Are you ready wheels? Start Rollin'!

Morgan:

Would your friend want just the rims, or do they want the hubs?

Paul:

If Morgan's friend doesn't want the rims can I have them? I have a black one and a silver one on my bike right now, and I've been wanting to get them matching. Or perhaps use them for my next project...I'm totally building a fixie with an old Schwinn step through frame. I will put a basket on it. I don't know if anyone else will find it as amusing as I will, but it will make me laugh.

take them BunnyBubbles, though i don't think they have the best braking surface as it looks like they were not originally machined for such a surface--be careful.

I am not sure whether I'd find that funny, or scary looking. How would you do one leg over the handlebar skids?

Oh, and definately use some like 10 cm long short bars. I would laugh at those with a basket.

Most insane reason for wheel building ever!  Matching is going to cost you hours and hours.

Don't judge. Plus, since I haven't actually seen them, I wasn't sure whether they'd work for my road bike or my potential funny fixie project. Given what Morgan said, I will use them on my project. I'll make myself miserable trying to build a wheel, and will then wisen up and get someone else to do it next time. BUT it'll still save me buying the rims!

If anyone else has a better use for them in the meantime, please take them!

BBB,

6 hours per wheel is what I spent on my first set.  This is after substantial prior experience truing wheels.

Do it!  You'll know a ton about wheels afterward.  Plus it can be fun, assuming there is music on.

6 hours per wheel?! How much were you drinking while you were building them?

Nada.  The first I laced up in a "three leading three trailing pattern" and I made it perfect.  The second was built on a 10 speed hub so it was really tough to get the drive side tension as high as possible in order that the non drive side not be soft.

Have you done it?  You gotta lace, raise the tension gradually, and then go through the process of lateral truing, eccentricity truing, checking spoke tension, stress the wheel . . . then repeat.  I'll put dollars to donuts other people will say they spent a similar amount of time on their first wheel.

It took me about 3-4 hours at the bicycle kitchen building my back wheel which was my first wheel, without any truing experience. It went by really quickly too. Maybe I just got in the zone and plowed through it. I just did a triple cross, it's my back wheel, which has taken too much abuse by me without truing, so it's pretty wobbly now, however the whole wheel is a mess from being hit, from hurting it myself, to just falling sometimes.

But yeah, I had the back wheel perfect, with the tension according to some chart being right in the middle of where it should be. My only issue with it was that the spokes weren't perfect, as they were either used, or sorted poorly so I had to spend a good 30 minutes of the entire time spent just picking out the right spokes.

Did you stress the wheel?  Did you check the evenness of the tension . . . or just get it true?
