So I need to replace the headset on my '72 Motobecane, the original Stronglight one has definitely seen better days. The only problem I have is not knowing whether it is French or English threaded. They made bikes with both back in the day, probably even some Italian, so how do I figure out what kind of threads I have? I figure the easiest way would be to try and thread on a standard headset and see if it fits, but if not it doesn't really solve the problem. Anyone?

Awww...  Poor Buttrumpus...

Nobody ever replied to your silly question !?!?

Well, let me see if I can assist you with your quest...

If you're thinking about the fork's "Steer-Tube" threads,
they're most likely standard 1" fork threads.

Easiest way to determine it would be to remove your
handlebar stem from the fork, and remove the 'top-nut'
of your existing headset.

Then simply try that nut on a few different forks in the
shop. (again, it's likely to be standard thread)

hope it helps...
