I've got a Scott Roadbike and the above Keo Classic Pedals. The majority of my riding is training for next years Aids Lifecycle ride from San Fran to LA.  Sometimes, i just want to hop on the bike and ride to the corner store, etc. and don't want to where my bike shoes. I'm trying to modify an old set of cleats by adding a 3x3 1/2" piece of metal or heavy plastic to the top of the cleat so i can just quickly throw them on the bike by hand. I'll add Skateboard grip tape to the tops so my feet don't slide.

Anyone done this before? One small obstacle i need to figure out is the slight bend in the Keo design so you can't just screw down a flat piece of material. i need to something that is flat for the foot yet conforms to the pedal underneath.
