I have chosen some arm warmers (they have flowers on them):

And am now thinking about my leggies.  Any and all advice welcomed.  Just knee warmers?  Or leg warmers?  Suggested brands?  Things to look for in a leg warmer?  Go crazy!

I got some smart wool ones that work great and pack up small and don't slip down when I'm riding, also some pearl izumi full lenghths that are super warm, breath well, but are bulkier and slip down a bit at the theigh. I prefer the smart wool unless it gets very cold.

get the smartwool ones from QBP.  No, they don't have flowers, but they don't stink like the synthetic ones do, they don't itch and they keep you warm.

Those are the ones I went with.  QBP does stock the flowery ones.  Thanks for the input.

Leg warmers are overkill. Go with knee warmers, easier to carry, put on and remove, etc.

I use DeFeet Kneekers, both in the regular version and the wool version. Depending on the temps determines which I'll bring.

Warm and long lasting.

Plus, they're made in the DeFeet factory in North Carolina as are almost all DeFeet products!

Pretty much any brand of warmer will keep you warm (and surprisingly cool in warmer weather), I'd suggest getting a lighter color if you plan on wearing it in the daytime.  Synthetics are cheaper, but they tend to stink after a few rides.

I do agree that leg warmers are overkill for even the coldest nights in Southern California.  If your lower leg gets cold, then longer socks will suffice.   However, I started out with knee warmers, but both brands I tried tended to slip down, so I'm all about leg warmers now.   Depends on your build.  Another benefit to having leg warmers is you get the option of reflective zippers and decals for visibility.  Even a small strip of reflective material on a moving part of your body makes a big difference at night.  This feature pretty much drove my last purchasing decision.

Some leg warmer lines come in different thicknesses, for example, the Pearl Izumi ones should mention something about warmth level on the tag.

Mihai- Either your legs are skinner than mine (yeah, right) or the brands you've tried don't work as well as my DeFeet Kneekers. The Kneekers are made in a way that they don't slip down, even on my chicken legs and the fact that Kneekers are one size fits all.

I really like the SmartWool arm warmers. Elastics are strong without cutting off circulation and the wool does not stink.

i'd like to again state that the smart wool leg warmers work great and don't slip down, the wind will go through them somewhat but they are still warm, the pack small, and they don't stink. I think they are one size fits all if you want to borrow mine. The reflective stripes on the pearl izumi ones really do make you very visable, I've been stopped by drivers twice to tell me so.
