I'm going to build a wheel for the first time this week.  32 hole, front, cross-3 pattern, and I'm using Sheldon Brown for instructions/reference.

What's the best wheel building advice you received and/or gave?

Use the Jobst Brandt book. Follow the instructions. Allot plenty of time.

The office computer has a link on Firefox for the EDD Spoke length calculator.  It works brilliantly if your rim and hub are listed.
Also, I really liked the wheelbuilding book that has the spiral binder with the black cover that is somewhere in the shop.  It made sense to me.  Especially for 3 cross.

2nd the Jobst Brandt. The rest work, but The Bicycle Wheel is the best reference.

I did it based on Sheldon Brown, although I needed help with the tensioning and final truing. I'm really glad I took the plunge and did it.

i'm going to rebuild that concave Weinmann wheel this week, I checked EDD and it had both that rim and the high flange Normandy hub programed in it. I also like the spiral bound book, last I saw it was behind the truing stands.

I give big ups to Dr. Sheldon.  I read the guide twice before building.  The only tricky bit I've found is dealing with the right or left drilling of spoke holes.  As they are usually offset a bit from the centerline, it takes a second to figure which hole to start with and which to go for on the opposite side, so as to leave the proper space above the valve stem hole.

I'd read everything beforehand and then pick one as a guide to use during your assemblage.

don't tighten the spoke nipples until the wheel is completely laced or you will find they end up over tightened and warp your rim.  Then you have to go back and loosen them.  It makes for extra work.  Start with them loose and focus and getting the wheel laced then, snug them down.  After that slowly tighten them to true the wheel.  It takes time, but your rim will thank you with a nice straight true spin. The EDD spoke calc is tight, so is that spiral book, it goes step by step and is really easy to follow.  Don't forget to use penetrating oil or some such on the threads, it will make truing easier.  Once you have the wheel together and its all loosey goosey just throw it on the stand and pretend like its a wheel that you just found that is badly dished, out of round, untrue and too loose.  That's what I did anyway.  It also helps to have your dishing, truing, rounding, and tensioning skills down pat before you start or you will be in the deep end and learning too many tricky skills at once.  Good luck.

I'd have to agree with that. The books seem to over complicate things. I built up my first wheelset from Sheldon Brown's instructions, totally easy to understand and follow and now i've got a practically bombproof set o' wheels!

Definitely.  I'll let you know when the spokes are in.

I'm not as big a fan of UBI as I am of Lord God Sheldon Brown.  What I find useful is a quiet space with as few distractions as possible to do the lacing.  Take your time.  Be patient.  I agree with Shane on the truing skills.  Make sure you already have those before you build a wheel.  It gives you a better feel and more respect for what can go wrong from too much tensioning in the wrong places.

Beauties Golf Clubs
Most golfers may know that it is important to own good golf clubs. I have used the ping rapture v2 irons, I’m very happy with those items. That majority in the G15's features must be familiar. ishiner
