it's been getting more cramped out by the beach over the past couple of weeks now that summer is summering away, especially on the beach bike path. more often than not there's a lot of families walking on it that shouldn't be. i want to ask everyone biking on the path to please SLOW DOWN when it's cramped. although there are signs that say "bikes only," as soon as anyone steps foot on it, its a pedestrian walk way whether you like it or not. i've seen a couple of accidents and some very scary close calls with some very small children that shouldn't have happened lately, i'd really like for it to stop.

seriously, who would knowingly hurl 200 pounds of anything within inches of a 4 year-old at 25 mph?
sorry to get a little serious, but folks visit this strip of ocean from everywhere, please respect them.

Yo,

I completely agree with this.  I do a lot of riding down south on the bike path and almost everytime I see an asshole roadie (I'm in roadie gear too) nearly injure someone.  Whenever see this I usually have a word with the rider if they're going the same way - I would encourage y'all to do the same.

This MAY upset some...
I found out oh,   almost 20 years ago that as locals, we should do everything possibe to stay OFF THE PATH during the summer.  I got taken out by a young roller blader (bent my drop out before they had replaceable dropouts) and a cop was right there and he wouldn' t do a thing to help me.. NO ticket for the kid, No report for me and my damaged bike!!!  You must be either asking for trouble or like hassle, or just maybe ignorant of the situation.  It is not a true bike path during the summer...
the police have only issued tickets 1(ONE) (UNO) time in all the tome I've noticed, to Peds, skaters, etc.
My advice is to stay off till the summer crowds leave.
LOVE Ya'll

I live in an area where I can either ride the bike path (right by my house) or scary freeway-like streets to head north. The bike path is more that just a fun way to cruise the beach for me. It is the route I use to get around. It's hard to respect tourists who walk two, three or four abreast and don't budge an inch for cyclists. Please stop and talk to them too.

If you hit an adult you're more likely to take a hard spill than they are.  I yell at them and give them a big piece of my mind though.

the secret is to bury ur shoulder.. conserving just enough angular momentum to flip over once and land on ur feet.

i think; haven't tried it yet

Hi all,

I'm new to bikerowave but I'm happy that such a thing exists here in L.A..  As for the bike path, I have to agree with some of you in avoiding the path altogether.  I actually prefer riding PCH than the freak'in bike path.  I used to be hostile and yelled at the dorks walking 3 abreast but after a while I realized that as long as cops refuse to do anything about it I'd be better off on the road.  There you have it..my 2 cents! What really gets to me on the bike path are those tourists zooming and swerving around on those three-wheeled recumbant things.  They always ride in packs and they always ride like teenage rednecks on graduation night.  Those things scare me.

A lot of people see "bike path" and never imagine people use it as anything more than a slow paced leisurely cruising path. Especially tourists. When I moved out here years ago from Philly I imagined it was only used by old people on tandems and rollerbladers, and maybe the occasional skateboarding dog.

People need to calm down. I don't care what the situation is, no one needs to be taught a lesson.... even yelling is lame, nothing seems more out of place than someone on a bike whizzing by and yelling at people walking by the beach. I'm sure when that tourist comes back in 13 years they will remember! Someone yelled at me for crossing it once while I was walking back from the beach......its sort of unavoidable.  I looked, I was careful...I swear he accelerated.....I wanted to rip his head off.... It was just a stream of curse words fading away from me at 25mph. You are operating a vehicle, accidents happen....but you nearly taking someones head off because you can't be bothered to slow down is  immature. The fact that someone shouldn't have been walking on the bike path doesn't mean they are not there. Slow the F down.

Even streets have red lights and cross walks, people walk......I'd say that path is pretty good by comparison....god forbid you have to go a few miles without slowing down . You're not entitled to a traffic free interruption free hassle free commute because you're riding off street. It's a tourist spot, accept it and move on.

as it pertains to "what goes around comes around"...

you yell at some dude in relaxed fit khakis on the bike path, he gets in his porsche SUV and comes within two inches of you (or one of us) while he is on his bike.

for some reason or another, people really examine bicyclists with a microscope when they do anything unrully.  i think the better citizens we can be, the more respect we'll get.

good advice to avoid the path.  i agree.

that being said, i'm all for correcting an _hole.
