http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/kilott_s3x.htm

$449.95 w/ brakes and Sturmey Archer S3x 3spd fixed gear rear hub.

Would love to hear if the S3X is any good.

This would be truly sweet if they had run the shifter cable internally... it looks busy for a fixie, even sans brakes.

Wonder if there's any play in the cog... anyone know?

True

"Wonder if there's any play in the cog... anyone know?"

Apparently it's about 1/8-1/4 turn, noticeable, but not bad.  (I can't find the site where I read that, unfortunately.)

I'm one of the biggest fans of the Sturmey Archers, and I'm happy to see this is coming out at last.   I suspect however, it will not be the ideal "brakeless" machine.  The complexity of the internals may not be able to survive the day to day skid stopping lifestyle of your average fixster.

I'm really excited about that little ole bar end shifter however.  They are coming out with a standard 3 speed version of the bar end/thumb shifter as this fixie hub has it's own shifter.

I'm eager to try one of these out, I think this could be pretty ideal setup, I really prefer my fixed gear for moving through traffic during my commute, but their are a few hills that give me fits when I run certain errands.

and I don't skid, is that 1/8 or 1/4 turn of the pedals of play? because that sounds like way too much and would def. cool my enthusiasm
