There's an event coming up--the Mar Vista Goes Green event on October 3rd in Mar Vista Park.  It should be a lot of fun and they, the Mar Vista Green Committee(?) want us do a bike valet service.
And...
There is a strong desire on the Mar Vista Farmer's Market to get something going on an ongoing basis there as well.  A bike valet service.
I think we could do this.  Mar Vista has really taken a shine to us and we should take advantage of there hospitality.  It sounds like:
There would be a budget to build the necessary bike-able materials needed to make racks.(Looking into this.)
There could possibly be insurance from the Farmer's Market which would cover us in the event of theft (we are looking into this as well.)

This would mean we'd need a consistent presence at the MVFM--which is a nice down-home kind of event.  It's great political outreach for us,  we can get more locals riding their bike if they knew we were there looking after their bikes, Rosendahl and his team at the LA Transportation committee will see how our grassroots work in the community pays off.  Franchising will follow...ha...

What do you think?  We have our member meeting coming up, where we can certainly add this to the agenda, but this needs some consensus and support from us now.

Info on the event:
http://marvistagoesgreen.blogspot.com/

It runs 10am to 4pm, so we can assume that they would need to set up about half an hour early, and stay half an hour past 4.

We could do what SF Bike Coalition does at their events and just ask the event providers to give us human barricades (pictured below) and use them as bike racks.

I'll staff it, as long as I don't work that day.

I had planned to be participating in this event by serving at the Bikero-valet service we will be providing.  I got a call for work which is great, but it eats up my entire weekend.

So, I can't be there.  I would imagine it'll be a lot of fun and we can do a great service to the community by participating.

I hope some of you can make it out for the event!

We really could use some help with this as it's happening tomorrow.  I know we are all stretched out with commitments, but even a couple hours or even one at the corner of Palms and McLaughlin from 10 am til 4 pm would help out a bunch.
It would mean a lot to me
