My friend Daisy just walked home from Hollywood after she discovered her bike had been stolen in front of the bank.  The theft is even on camera.  Guy comes up, circles around the bikes at the rack, calls someone on his cell, stoops down, cuts the lock with something and rides it away, leaving his bike behind.
This is really sad, because the owner and the builder of the Bike are both good friends.  This was Eric Zimmerman’s 4th frame after the one he built for me.

A report has been filed with the local police department.

Yes, she had a cable lock.  Do not use cable locks, please.  I hate hearing about things like this.  And if you have a U-Lock, please use it.
Here it is:

Can the Bikerowave start stocking U-locks?

It would be awesome if we could actually sell them, so when we see someone come in with a cable lock, we can explain the uselessness thereof and offer them something better.

We now have in stock 3 of the Kryptonite Evolution mini locks.  They are $45 each.  A price of $32.50 was paid for each of them.  We aren't charging full mark-up because we won't sell any at $65 each.  The  going price is around $42 to $50.
So, if you want to buy one as a member, take the $32.50 X 20% = $6.50  which means members pay $39 plus tax.  Use the 1102 (I think, for new item) and put in the $39.

If you do the usual 40% off retail method on the POS, the bikerowave loses money.  And, that ain't good and I really want that to be solved in the POS somehow.
Tait?  Help?

Not to push my luck here, but could we maybe get some of the Kryptonite Keeper U-locks that RETAIL for $19.99? http://www.google.com/products?q=kryptonite+keeper+U-lock&hl=en&scoring=p

We could probably sell more of those.

I second JB's suggestion for selling more affordable u-locks.

For those who want a mini u-lock, but don't need to stick it in the back pocket of their tight jeans, the On Guard Bulldog Mini is a good option.

http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/17573-230_ONGBU8-43-Brands-652-On-Guard-Locks/On-Guard-Bulldog-Mini-U-Lock-3.5-x-5.5.htm

Half an inch wider than the Kryptonite EV mini, 3.5"x5.5", and 15 bucks cheaper. I got one after losing my EV mini, and I find that half inch really increases the amount of stuff I can lock to.

If you can't get On Guard to stock at the Bikerowave, there's also the Kryptonite Series 2 mini, 3.25"x7"

http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/18751-230_KRYKL8-2-Accessories-361-Locks/Kryptonite-Kryptolock-Series-2-Mini-3.25.htm

Also goes for around 30 bucks.

Don't consider a u-lock invulnerable either (though it's not about making it theft-proof and more about making it more of a pain and less attractive to steal than someone else's bike).  I once had a bike stolen because the thieves picked up the entire bike rack and threw it in the back of their truck.  So even there was an impossible to defeat lock, lock it to something solid and immovable.

I bike the Kryptonite Keeper lock idea.  It's inexpensive for us to buy and it appears to be large enough (and cheap enough) to fit around a bike thieve's neck AND a sign post/parking meter pole--once you catch the dbag.  Also, carrying a tattoo gun so you tattoo across his forehead the words "I AM A BIKE THIEF" (capital letters to give the sense the reader is being yelled at).

Sorry, my inner Inquisitor just came out.

Feel the power of the dark side...

I'll place a few on order in our next KHS order!  Thanks for the suggestions.

I heard that in New Orleans there was at least one sign post that thieves had removed and replaced to look secure.  When someone locked their bike to it, they'd simply pull out the pole and carry the bike away.  Touche.

I suggest not locking your bike to a bike rack/sign post/parking meter that is not connected to the ground.

Not so much of a win.  A draw maybe.

A guy got his stolen bike back.  That's a win in my book.
