SMPD keeping us safe

Early Sunday morning, May 20th @ the Santa Monica Festival there were some kids riding their bikes ON THE SIDEWALK.. didn't have camera @ the time but this guy was riding thier asses and scaring the crap out of them. a few minutes later he almost hit an old lady while riding his motorcycle IN THE PARK.

I'm confused...

Who was scaring the crap out of the kids, the bike rider or the cop?

I'm not a big fan of the police myself but I do know that the motorcycle cops were following those kids from Grant Elementary school to the SM Festival as a traffic break.  The idea was to have a bike parade into the festival however it was sort of anti-climactic and over staffed as less than a dozen riders showed up and at least half of them were under 2 years old...

To be honest, I was mildly disappointed by the mothers of these tots.  They were sipping their coffee, talking to each other and casually following behind on foot but not paying too much attention to their little guys who were riding trikes in the street.  This one little brotha' kept swerving into the opposite lane and I was trying to ride to his left as a physical barrier between him and oncoming traffic.  At that point the cops advanced to keep the kids safe. 

I don't know what happened when the "parade" (hehe) reached the park but on the street the motorcycle cop was actually being sweet with the little kids and giving them stickers and shit.

he followed the kids all the way up the sidewalk and into the park.. kind of looked like he was trying to get around them.

it seemed kind of unnecessary to be riding a motorcycle on the sidewalk so close to 2 year olds on bikes. the buttons on that uniform look to be under a lot of strain and if one were to burst.. who knows what could happen
