Listening for 10 minutes to some recumbent riding kook who called in, going on about his bike... yikes.

Geeze!
Give 'em a break!
It was the first one.
2 hours is a lot of time to fill in radio (volunteer), especially if you have to prep/research/edit etc.  It did get better as it went along, there were several guests who had things to say that came on later, and call ins.  I support the idea of a radio show, I think with focus and time to grow they could develop a tight little program.

(besides, aren't the things that remind us of ourselves the most disturbing?)  Wink

Yes, psychologically, it is generally the unresolved/unhealed aspect of one's self that feels the upset with another's behavior.  I wasn't drawn to what I heard, and yes it probably will get better. I do support it. Hey, it's about bikes and I'm crazy for bikes.

I didn't think it was too bad. Then again, I used to run a college radio station and I'm used to some pretty horrific radio.

Would listen again.

I talked to the guy when he came into Helen's to drop off some flyers for the show. Nice guy and interestingly enough, doesn't ride a lot.

Nice idea, I'd give it a chance to develop.

Hey, I'm the producer of bike talk and I know what you're talking about...although the recumbent biker was my dad, so I have to recuse myself from that discussion...I'd like to say that we are getting better, I think...you can listen to our second episode, which has Stephen Box and Eric Knutzen of the LA County Bicycle Coalition, at http://radio4all.net/index.php/program/30370
We need help producing our next show. If you can be an on air voice and talk about bikes, please let me know.
Nick at livebiketalk@gmail.com
thanks!
also, we need support in the listener area, too.

bike talker,

Have you considered doing a show at bikerowave? You will have no end of people who will not shut up about bikes. Smiley Saturdays when we are open would be good. Does the show require much set up that makes it impractical to do it outside of your 'studio' environ?

It would be a good publicity for Bikerowave as well.

That's a great idea, and we'll try it next saturday. we need some tech help, but I know it can be done because we've broadcast remotely from food not bombs before.
anybody interested in graffiti art and murals? we have the artist who does the chickens on bikes on tomorrow's show, Saturday the 29th, 10am-noon, on killradio.org, plus Brad House from the LA Bicycle Advisory Committee. Listen and call in!

Is it going to be a problem that we are open from 1pm to 7pm and your show is from 10am to 12pm? Is it live or pre recorded?

I can provide some 'tech help,' depending upon what Bike Talk's needs are.

Umm.

What are your needs?

we need to stream to a website other than killradio.org, so djs in the kr studio can play the stream on killradio. We used Muse before on my mac and I think we can do it again. I'm going to see our techie, Josh, on wednesday, so I'll know more then. but as for your not being open before 1pm, I hope you'll make an exception.  It may be we have everything we need already, but duplicate help couldn't hurt. If it all comes through, it'll be an exciting show.

If we are going to do this, we should put notification on the front page of the bikerowave.org, so that people would show up for the show.
