until they advance composite technology a little I doubt that the rims could actually contain the forces they're exposed to without spokes... but that's just the industrial designer in me talking...

no, they're not practical.
i was having a conversation with the crew on saturday explaining these.
were talking concept bikes here... not exactly cyclocross durability. regardless, if these were strictly track bikes and weren't subjected to the bumps and bruises of street abuse, then yes, there are materials strong enough to endure a smooth track. possibly not cost effective, but definitely available.

well i just worry about the wheels getting all worbly with the cross stresses from high intensity sprinting... even those track guys break chains...
nevertheless the white one is quite sexy
