I'm posting this for the LA River Ride coordinators who contacted me today. Hope that some of you can make it to help them out!

----------------------------------------

We need your help to build bikes for needy kids....you bring the wrench, we'll bring the beer!

I am the River Ride coordinator for the 8th Annual Los Angeles River Ride, June 8th.  This year, we, with support of KHS, are giving 40 bikes to needy kids.  The bikes will be presented to the children at a press conference with elected officials.  Not only will this moment make some deserving children happy, we'll also be promoting the cause of better bike programs to these officials and the public at large.

I am sorry this is out later than I expected.  Having to coordinate this effort has been difficult because of multiple logistic issues to deal with.  Here are the final details for the bicycle building party this weekend.

When: Sat, May 31, 8:30am to 6pm (can end early if we are done)

Work time slots (3 hour slots):
       1) 8:30am - 11:30am
       2) 11:30 - 12 = lunch
       3) 12 - 3pm
       4) 3 - 6pm (if necessary, please call Henry before leaving: 310-722-7135)

Looking for: 5-8 people per time slot

Where: KHS Bicycles corporate office/warehouse near North Long Beach area.
Address: 2840 E. Harcourt St., Rancho Dominguez, CA 90221

Bikes to be built:
  20x Hot-rod single speed, 20" wheel
5x   BMX trail bikes, 20" wheel
  15x Mountain bikes, 26" wheel

Bring (if you have):
  Basic bike building tools
Building stand not necessary, but if you have and want to bring, that would be great too.

LACBC will provide: snacks, soft drinks, pizza lunch.

Hi everyone,

This is Henry Hsieh.  I look forward to meeting any cool volunteers tomorrow for this event!
Did I forget to mention that volunteers will get some free beer?  I need to check if we can drink on premise, but at the very least, you'll be able to take home with you Tongue

Also, I live close to UCLA so if you need a car ride either going from or coming back to the Westside, please call me on my cell phone ASAP: 310-722-7135.  I'll take my bike rack with me so you can either leave early with your bike or arrive with your bike.

Please reply to this thread with specific time slot if you plan to show, so I know how much food to bring with me.

Hope to see many happy faces tomorrow!

Hi again,

After a relatively lonely  Cry bike building Saturday, Vince C from KHS and I managed to build 16 bikes (OK, yes, I was very slow).  KHS has committed to working on few of these bikes during the week, but we will have another bike building session this coming Saturday, June 7.

Please, please, please, volunteer to help if you can either:
1) If you are free during the week, give Vince C a call: 310-632-7173 x 210
2) If you are free on Saturday, June 7, please message or call me directly.

Beer is still available to those who volunteer!  And of course, my eternal gratitude and smiles on kids faces laugh!

Thank you,

- Henry
